Hanukkah, the festival of lights.A "little prayer" goes a long way. I
have been out of work, and not sure when looking for work what means
of looking for a job, a job, and environment that I would want. Before
chanukah is yud tes kislev, when the tanya was released. The tanya is
hasidic teachings and is followed by the the Jewish religious sect,
known as chabad lubavitch. I decided despite, how religious, or
"religious" I may or may not be, I will pray with a minyan which in
case you didn't know needs to consist of ten Jews praying together.

I went to pray because considering my current life, and financial
situation, as well as quiet a few other areas in my life, I felt like
I really needed help from the man upstairs,or if you feel the need to
use specific labels, G-d.

While in synagogue, I ran into a well known rabbi/ chabad advocate, as
well as a well known, and respected chaplain at hunter college. We
have known each other somewhat for a while, because we both live, and
spend time in the same community, crown heights, in Brooklyn, New
York.

When heading out to pray, I held one intention, or desire let's say in
my mind, and that desire was simply this. God please help me get a
job.Well I got way more then I asked, or bargained for.I have spoke
with him, (rabbi baruch shalom jacobson) many times in the past, about
different things, and found him to be smart humerus interesting, and a
good listener. On top of his other qualities, I find him to have a
perfect mix, and sense of wonder about the world and life combined
with raw but humorously intelligent insights, and perspectives.

I mention to him I was looking for work, and would you believe it, the
next day I met, and interviewed with him for a part time job. I worked
with him for an amazing week, mostly at hunter college, and what an
amazing fun, and inspiring experience it has been.

G-d answered my prayer not according to what I thought I needed, but
he gave me what I actually needed, and some.

Yes he has paid me some money for the work I have done, but that is
not the real payment. The real payment has been to have the pleasure,
and privilege, to " see the man behind the man." I have soaked in
every word, and conversation we have had together, and for that I am
eternally grateful. We turned out to be a perfect match of people, as
far as personalities go.

He showed me the inside of his world, and I saw him, and spent time
with him on a very personal level. I loved him unconditionally, he
needed not act like a rabbi, and play the official persona of a rabbi.
In return he looked at me, and accepted me as I am, and by allowing me
to be me, I did for him what a messenger does for a king, so to speak.
That acceptance motivates me more then any rules and regulations ever
would.
